sometimes it was just bad RNG and the boss would get lucky with debuffs/crits. Some bosses I had to fight 3-5 times before I beat them. So in a way, I couldn't grind out extra levels and had to figure out the fight. I played with Super Strong Monsters and Weaker enemies don't give experience. So really it's just grinding until you can beat these 2-3 bosses and then after that resume playing as usual >.< Explains why it doesn't seem to make much of a difference :\Īnd apparently the few boss fights that are actually ridiculous in this game on draconian are just in certain areas, with most of the bosses afterwards actually being decent and not OP as f%&*. I looked into what the percentage to reduce elemental damage or prevent status effects on them are, and for the most part the most you get is between a 5-10% chance on average or 30% at the most from what I have seen for the really good gear. Status preventing equipment in this game is just complete a%&. Is the super strong moster mode supposed to be this way or is there something obvious that I am missing because I'm stupid?Īnd for the record all of my characters have the best equipment I can buy/forge for the area the boss is in, all with +2 or +3 modifiers, the characters builds are optimized, as far as I know, for skill synergy and DPS, I am using debuffs and status effects against bosses (when they actually manage to proc, which is rarely it seems) and I am grinding minimum an extra 5-10 levels every new area that I go to.ĮDIT: Mystery solved by the way. I can't tell if it's just because this is my first Dragon Quest game and there are some mechanics I am not understanding or if the bosses are just supposed to be that hard on this mode.īut it feels like I am spending most of the boss fight buffing, debuffing, healing and res'ing characters than I am actually fighting, and that's with bosses that have double the normal stats seems like. I feel like I have to be 10-20 levels over the recommended level for some areas just to be able to have a decent chance at winning. The regular monster fights still aren't that bad but the bosses WRECK FACE. I'm all for a good challenge and I am no stranger to grinding in RPGs for good gear and levels, but holy super strong monsters SUCK after 20-40 hours in. All of a sudden bosses were getting 3-4 turns per round, every 2-3 rounds was an instant kill crit attack, status effects that were locking out character abilities, charming or downright staggering characters to where they can't do anything for several turns, my own characters debuff and status effect skills not proc'ing except for like 20% of the time, WTF? A pretty good balance.īut THEN I got further into the game, and HOLY S^#$ did that change fast. As long as I had decent gear and wasn't severely underleveled they weren't too easy and not too hard. The regular fights were decent but not too difficult and the first few boss fights weren't that bad. Af first after starting the game that seemed like a good suggestion. Since I am a veteran RPG player, even though I haven't played any Dragon Quest games before, I figured that was a good suggestion after all of the stuff I was seeing. After reading a ton of reviews and watching a lot of gameplay videos before buying the game I was under the impression that the normal difficulty is too easy, so you should use Super Strong mosters in draconian mode to make the game more challenging.
